About Us
EXPERIENCES

Canada is recognized internationally as being leaders in curling, and Canmore, with its views of the Canadian Rocky Mountains and location next to the iconic Banff National park, is the perfect place to give curling a try! Over two hours, guests will learn about the skills, strategy, and traditions of curling and why Canadians are so passionate about it! Then, grab a broom and try your hand at throwing a curling stone and sweeping a rock down the ice as the arena echoes with shouts of “hurry, hard"! There is the option to enjoy a craft Alberta beer during the experience, or grab a bite to eat afterwards in our restaurant and lounge. We'll wrap up with a short game, followed by hot refreshments overlooking the mountains.

Curling is widely accessible and is enjoyed across the country by people of all ages and abilities. All you need to bring are warm clothes and a clean pair of indoor shoes - we'll provide the rest.

Frequently
Asked
Questions

Do I need to bring any special equipment?

No. We'll provide all necessary equipment, including sliders, brooms, stabilizers and sticks. All you need to bring is warm clothing (we recommend a jacket, gloves or mittens and a hat) and a clean pair of indoor shoes. Gym shoes work well. If you don't have an extra pair of shoes with you, we just ask that you clean your shoes before going on the ice to avoid damaging the ice surface. Personal items can be brought into the arena and left along the backboards, or non-valuables can be left in the curling lounge (visible from the ice).

I have bad knees. Can I still curl?

Absolutely. We encourage people only to do the parts of the activity that feels safe and comfortable. Traditionally, curlers deliver stones by sliding out which requires the ability to squat and get into a lunge position. If this doesn't feel good for you, we have alternate options for delivering rocks while walking instead. There are also lounge chairs along the sides of the ice, so you can comfortably spectate while still being part of the action. You can participate as little or as much as you like.

Should I bring head protection?

Head protection is optional, but some people prefer to wear a helmet or padded hat while curling. If this would make you more comfortable, we certainly encourage you to wear head protection. We have a few padded hats available to borrow at the club. Other options include bicycle helmets or ski helmets.

Can I eat/drink during this experience?

Sure. We have a full restaurant on site, so feel free to grab a snack or drink to enjoy while learning about curling or stick around afterwards. Curlers know how to have a good time, and the Canmore Golf and Curling club allows players to take their canned alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks on to the ice, as long as they remain along the carpeted boards. We don't allow food in the arena.
